Quotes Inspire…

Quote from the Wizard of Oz

If you know anything about me then you know I absolutely love a good quote.  I am also a strong proponent against reinventing the wheel and believe that great minds do in fact think alike (not sure who coined either of those phrases).

My love of quotes, inspiration, and motivation was sparked by an early obsession with books and the one and only Megan Vadnais, my graduate assistant supervisor and mentor.  Megan loved to leave post-it notes around our office with quotes, sayings, and cute anecdotes as a way to help form connections and positive outlooks, or at least that is what I thought at the time.   Upon the conclusion of my graduate assistantship Megan gifted me with a wonderful calender of quotes.  Those quotes now make up a quote quilt on a wall in my office.

Friends, colleagues, and many of my students continue to bare witness to my love, and continuous use, of quotes.  Which even sparked a past Peer Counselor of mine to make me a customize quote box, which I love.  Today, I get quotes and inspiration from a variety of places to include books, shows, movies, songs, or even every day conversations.  Check back often, you might even find yourself featured here one day.  If so, I will do my best to ask permission first, but at the bare minimum I will always attribute.

So this post is dedicated to my continued passion for, and love of, quotes- and from time to time I will continue to post quotes, food for thought- or Today’s Words of Wisdom, as I will call them.

Today’s history lesson courtesy of @mspackyetti and @politico... IT WAS NEVER ABOUT MORTALITY! #Repost @mspackyetti: this White House and conservative state governments across the country have been playing the long game: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Quietly change the courts at every level, including the Supreme Court, to secure conservative majorities. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Pursue state bans on abortion through multiple strategies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Use the momentum and precedent to challenge Roe v. Wade altogether. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ THIS IS NOT ABOUT MORALITY. IT IS ABOUT POWER. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Check it: the “religious right” essentially chose abortion as the fight because it could be used as a unifying political issue between Catholics and Protestants. White evangelicals had lost trying to defend segregation, and needed a new bandwagon. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They were NOT up in arms when Roe became law. It was SIX years later when they decided to “care,” which only meant to make a power play. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even if you don’t care about that, know this: abortion bans DO NOT end abortions. They simply make them extremely dangerous and lethal for the women who have to go to back allies to have them. One in Four American women will have an abortion. Do you want her to be safe, or nah? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If that STILL doesn’t matter to you, how about this: Women are PEOPLE. We deserve control over our bodies, just like you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Swipe and visit the links in my stories/ morning news highlights to get the real history of the politics of abortion in America and find out what YOU CAN DO to fight this back. Info on last two slides is from an article by Mia Brett. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Outrage is meaningless if it doesn’t lead to action. ❤️✊🏾

“A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.” —#RosalynnCarter. • It’s always a joy catching up with alumni and spending time with the protégés during @jump_nation’s JUMP Weekend. But running into @mr_vico_ and his students, while also rocking my @hollateamusa gear today, gave me so much joy. • Vic, you have been a great leader in the making since entering Binghamton during BEP and as a PC, and you are greater still. Watching you now on the other side excelling as a mentor, chaperone, teacher, coach was such an honor. Keep on making us proud! #Bearcats4Life #WeAreBinghamton #ForTheCulture
