This blog will contain the random musings of my mind or simply my reactions to the world around me. I love to share food for thought or stir up a good debate. I am interested in a variety of topics that mainly center around feminism/femininity, diversity, technology, social justice, equality, faith, higher education, and student affairs. I hope you enjoy and come back often!
Who is Tanyah Barnes?
I am a native Floridian, some would say a Southern Gal, living in the Northeast- for now! I am a creative being that loves to read, sometimes write, but always watch and listen! I am often described as a woman, sister, daughter, BBW, mentor, friend, advisor, advocate, techie, DIYer, dreamer, event planner, go-getter, graphic designer, web-designer, plus-sized princess and Student Affairs Professional. My heart cries out for peace, love, and service of others. If you ask me- I am a dynamic, passionate and complicated piece of music that leaves your ears and soul wanting more!
I am an alum of the University of Florida (Go Gators) and the University of South Florida (Go Bulls). I am an active member of the Apalachin Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
I currently work (day job) at Binghamton University (Go Bearcats) as Diversity Fellow in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. As a professional I have also worked in Residential Life, Graduate School recruitment, Civic Engagement, Communications & Marketing, Educational Opportunity Program, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Interpersonal Violence Prevention, and Parent and Family Programs. I have worked as a student affairs professional for about seven years and have loved every moment of it. My passions are diversity programming, advising, distance learning, leadership & development, student activities, student affairs and technology (marketing/tech/branding), and transition programs.
I also work as a graphic designer for Noelle Ivey Designs and consult with CeCe Olisa as Admin for #PSPfit, a healthy lifestyle challenge for plus-sized women. Contact me at fitness@thebiggirlblog.com or visit pspfit.com for more information.
Great picture of you, Tanyah!
